1st Day of School
The kids got up SUPER early this morning. I think they were both up by 5:30. We had time to get dressed and do our chores without any rush. We even had time to read a chapter from Little House on the Prairie. They kids had waffles with peanut butter and an over medium egg for breakfast. When we got to school, Robert didn't want to hold my hand once we got closer to the school entrance. He wanted to walk in by himself. I asked him if he thought the other kids thought he drove himself today. Really?! Asia, bless her heart, she was terrified. She didn't want to stand in line with the other 2nd graders. She wanted me to walk her in. A lady stopped me at the front of the school saying only Kindergartner's could be walked in. I told her I didn't have mine in kindergarten and would be walking my 2nd grader in. She looked at me funny- I just smiled. Once I dropped Asia off, I went by to say goodbye to Robert. He just blushed and gave me a hug. I told him he'd better or I would kiss his face in front of all his friends. I also reminded him that his mother doesn't wear pants at home to prove a point sometimes, so there's no limit to what I might do. He thought that was funny. Tonight for dinner, they have requested BBQ beef cups, mac and cheese, and green beans. Grandma would have thought that was cool. BBQ beef cups is her recipe. I can't wait to hear all about their first day as a 2nd and 3rd grader!

Dinosaurs, Lunch, and Toltec Mounds
The kids loved taking pics where they could "touch" the top of the mounds.
Today we took the kids to the Clinton Library to see a Dinosaur exhibit. We had no idea it was "Get in free day." Oh my goodness! Everyone and their dog was there! We looked at the two exhibit rooms full of dinosaurs. The kids thought it was really neat. After that, we drove to Scott to eat at Cotham's. The kids have never been there before. We ordered fried picks, 2 hubcap burgers- one with fries and one with onion rings. They were huge and did not disappoint! After stuffing ourselves and me spilling almost everything I ate on my shirt, we decided we needed some exercise to walk off our lunch. We stopped by the Toltec Mounds for a tour. The kids loved learning about the Indians that once lived there. They were fascinated by the mounds. They were even more fascinated by the Cypress knees down by the river. It reminded me of PaPa having one in their den. We let the kids pick out an arrow head as a souvenir. It was a fun day!

Last Day of Summer
Love this picture considering all they've been through.
Asia looks really grown up here!
Today, I took the kids on a celebration of their last day of summer vacation. We started the morning out with breakfast at Ihop. The kids got the Silver 5 meals. They each had 5 pancakes, sausage, and scrambled eggs. After breakfast, we headed on over to Tyndall Park. We ended up walking the track for a bit before the splash pad opened. Once we figured out how to get the water going, the kids had the whole place to themselves for almost an hour. They had a blast splashing around. After the splash pad, I surprised them by going to see the Minion movie. We even splurged and let them get candy for the movie. They ended up eating 2 big bowls of popcorn!!! Well, I might have helped some! After the movie we ended the day with ice cream and playing at Sonic. It was a fun, memorable way to spend the last day of summer vacation!
Open House
The kids were super excited about going to Open House. We got their early- as usual- and stayed in the car to wait on Luke. The school has no parking, so it's always good to get a spot early. I read Little House on the Prairie to the kids while we waited. We went to tour Asia's new class first. She has Ms. Crossett. We found her seat and put away all her school supplies. She seemed excited about starting 2nd grade. Next, we found Robert's 3rd grade class. It's all the way on the other side of the school. Robert has a cool desk that opens at the top. He was amazed by that. He met his teacher Ms. Vaughn. We are super excited about that. After putting all his supplies away, we headed onto dinner. We ate at Taco Bueno before coming back home. We're all looking forward to great school years!
