San Antonio Adventure

Luke and I left with Kingston on Wednesday and headed out to San Antonio, TX.  We made many stops along the way.  We stopped at Sulphur Springs, TX to see the "See Through" bathrooms.  They are bathrooms made of glass- you can see people all around the square, but they cannot see you.  Kingston was fascinated!  While in Sulphur Springs, we stopped at the Dairy Museum for a photo-op with humongous cows!  We went inside and Kingston was fascinated at the skeleton that talked while riding a bicycle.  He talked about how drinking milk helps you have strong bones and teeth.

We then stopped at Collin Street Bakery for lunch.  They are known for the fruit cakes.  We tried a sample- and while it was good- we didn't want to spend 100 bucks for a fruit cake.  The sandwiches were good though.  We all got cookies and hit the road again.

At Waco, we had to stop at the Silos.  Kingston and Luke played outside on the grounds while I shopped for a bit.  We got in line to get cupcakes.  Luke got their black and white cupcake and Kingston and I split a Strawberry one.  They were delicious.  We got Nana 2 small plants at their seed store and then hit the road again.

We stopped somewhere along the way for Kingston to see the World's Largest Tin Man- it was 80 feet tall.  After the tin man, we headed onward to San Antonio.  We stopped at Bob Miller's for dinner.  We walked in and told the cashier that we had never been there before.  She asked if we wanted the Family Pack Dinner.  We said sure!  We picked brisket, green beans, creamed corn, and unbeknownst to us- a BUCKET of tea.  While waiting to get our dinner, we realized there was also another counter that was hot plate buffet style food.  We realized we should have gotten in that line.  When we got our food- we had to go get plates, napkins, cups, and silverware.  It was a huge portion of food!  The brisket was really good and Kingston loved the creamed corn.  The bucket of tea was interesting to serve from!  It was a fun memory.

Once inside New Brunsfels, we stopped at Buccee's.  It was the world's largest gas station.  It was amazing.  It had 184 pumps and a full deli inside.  They had a gift shop side and a snack side.  Kingston picked up some thinking putty from there and played with it the whole trip.  We of course couldn't leave without our Beaver Nuggets- sweet crunchy goodness. Then it was onto the hotel.

The next day, we headed for the San Antonio Zoo.  It was a beautiful and big zoo.  Kingston loved looking that the reptiles and snakes the most.  We got to feed birds nectar from a cup.  One bird loved a small skin tag on my neck and kept pulling at it- it hurt!  We finally saw the giraffe's- my favorite animal.  We waited in line to feed them.  I was so amazed at doing this. Kingston gave them his three leaves of lettuce- then he wanted mine.  I told him no, that this was my time.  I enjoyed every minute of feeding them. That was one of the highlights of the trip for me!  We spent most of the day at the zoo.  After the zoo, we headed back to the hotel for a nap.  Then, we went to the River Walk.  It's so pretty down there.  We walked around a bit and ate dinner at Casa Rosita.  It was some good Mexican food.  We fed the ducks while sitting at our table.  They were so sweet.  We took a boat ride and enjoyed looking at the city.  We ended the night with a Hot Fudge Sundae at Ghiradeli.  It was delicious!

On Friday, we headed to Sea World.  We wanted to be sure and watch the Shamu show- so we headed that direction first.  The Killer Whales were amazing.  I got goose bumps and teary eyed watching them.  The way they glide through the water is amazing.  After Shamu- we watched the Beluga Whales and Dolphins.  It was just neat watching them interact with their trainers.  At Sea World, we were able to feed the sea lions fish.  Kingston was amazed at how smelly the fish were!  After checking out the penguins, we let Kingston ride an egg ride.  He was really too old for it and looked miserable.  Later though, we would find out that was his favorite thing about Sea World!  After the rides, we let him splash around in the splash pad.  He had a blast getting wet.  We ended the day by looking at the dolphins and sharks again.  We stayed at the park all day!  We ate dinner that night at PaPa Deaux's.  It was delicious.  I got Crab and Butternut Squash Risottos which was amazing.  Luke got the Sea Bass and asparagus.  Kingston got Shrimp and mashed potatoes.  We even tried alligator- which does taste like chicken!  It was a great day!

On Saturday, we left San Antonio and headed toward Galveston, TX.  We thought Kingston would enjoy seeing the beach.  We weren't really prepared as this was a spur of the moment thing.  We drove most of the day to get there.  We got parked and let him play in the sand and water.  He had a great time collecting shells and even found a sand dollar!  When we got back in the car he was really quiet.  He finally said, "Aunt Issa, I have sand in my butt."  I just laughed and we pulled over and let the boy change clothes.  We stopped in Nacogdoches, TX for the night before heading home the next day.  We couldn't end the trip without stopping at the Steak and Shake in Texarkana.  It was a fantastic trip!
